A life-time resident of the Fingerlakes area, Dave is an avid “catch and release” fly-fisherman and fly-tyer. He is passionate about sharing his love for fly fishing as well as the outdoors and his patient yet enthusiastic approach has gotten many people “hooked” on the sport! He has been fly fishing for 33 years  and began guiding as sole-proprietor of Fingerlakes Fly Fishing Guide Service in the spring of 1999. In July of 2012, Dave survived a sudden and devastating stroke from a basketball injury that affected his carotid artery. After many weeks of hospitalization and returning home wheelchair-bound along with an uncertain prognosis as to whether or not he would regain the use of his left arm or leg, through hard work and perseverance he reclaimed his ability to walk again.

The pictures above are a testament of his determination to be back in the water since then and doing what he loves! Additionally with the help of Dean Childs “Evergreen Hand”, Dave is also able to continue to tie his own flies. After a brief hiatus from guiding and with the encouragement of previous clients, family and friends, Dave started guiding again sharing his knowledge and passion for fly fishing. Dave is a seasoned fly fishing guide(with over 20 years of experience).   Dave is very skilled at nymph fishing, He has done presentations at Trout Unlimited, and the Federation of Fly Fisherman. Dave is also well versed and skilled at dry fly fishing and fishing with streamers.
